Directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, Panipat – The Great Betrayal is an epic war drama film. It is a typical, larger-than-life Bollywood movie based on the third battle of Panipat.

The third panipat war took place in 1761 when Sadashiv Rao Bhau Peshwa led the Maratha army to the north of India to drive away the invading forces of Ahmad Shah Abdali, the King of Afghanistan.

Plot Synopsis Plot for Panipat: The Great Betrayal

The historical events depicted in the film revolve around the main character, Sadashiv Rao, played by Arjun Kapoor. It is about the time when, in the 18th century, the Maratha empire reached its peak. And how he cunningly outwits Ibrahim Khan Gardi and captures the fort. Instead of killing Ibrahim, he appoints him as a commander in the Maratha army. 

Then, the victorious Sadashiv Rao returned to Pune, raising tensions within the Maratha empire. Political secrecies and mysteries in the Maratha empire resulted in betrayal under the leadership of Sadashiv Rao. He ultimately culminated as the Indian (Hindustan) Kings withdrew their forces right in the middle of the Third Battle of Panipat. The film portrays the courage and sacrifice of Sadashiv and his army in the face of overwhelming adversity.
